The first test results I saw the other day on the AMD quad core were pretty dismal, at least in an XP environment. They expected better once Vista is out but there were some real serious issues such as heat and power usage. Performance just wasn't that much greater.
That's a shame because I've always had a warm spot for AMD since they were a competitor for Intel. Intel gave me a bad taste years ago when I had occassion to be able to play in assembler code on both an Intel and Motorola chipset. Intel was so far behind the curve on innovation. Things I could do so easily and quickly on a Motorola 6809 chip were nearly impossible on the 8086. As Motorola got into the 68000 line they were running rings around the X86 architecture. The only problem was that the companies that used them had no frigging clue how to market them.
We got stuck instead with VHS over BETA.
