A United Nations report has identified the world's rapidly growing herds of cattle as the greatest threat to the climate, forests and wildlife.
...
But in almost every case, the world's 1.5 billion cattle are most to blame. Livestock are responsible for 18 per cent of the greenhouse gases that cause global warming, more than cars, planes and all other forms of transport put together."

Oh, and "Burning fuel to produce fertiliser to grow feed, to produce meat and to transport it - and clearing vegetation for grazing - produces 9 per cent of all emissions of carbon dioxide, the most common greenhouse gas."
If it actually produces 9% of all CO2 emission by human activity that would be quite a staggering amount, but if they mean 9% of all CO2 from transportation that would be understandable- the CO2 emission from transportation is not very significant- though often presented in the media as the major cause. It goes without saying that if we replaced cars with horses there would a massive increase in CO2 [not even including the methane]- not to mention a massive increase of death due to transportation accidents. Fortuately no one is stupid enough to suggest we replace motor vehicles with horses.
