If the Dems were to start boasting about impeaching the President and enacting all kinds of legislation that would be viewed as bad by the Republicans CURRENTLY IN POWER (oops, sorry to shout), it would give the Republicans time and motivation to try to come up with ways to prevent those plans. It would be like being in a poker game and just laying out your cards before the betting starts.

I'd say everything we've heard until the reins are passed is to be taken with a grain of salt. I would hope that to be the case at least because I want congressional investigations with true supoena power into 9/11, the leadup to the Iraq war, and the handling of the civilian contracts in Iraq. I also want, if those investigations find concrete evidence of gross incompetence, bastardized intelligence, or criminal deeds, to have both Bush and Cheney impeached and forced from office.

I don't think that the actual impeachment conviction in the Senate would ever take place though. I have to have faith that there would be a Goldwater type in the Republican party who would go to those two men and convince them their resignation would be the only thing that would heal the country and resurrect the GOP. It'd be a tough pill to swallow but I think the votes would be there in the Senate to nail them. I think there'd even be Republicans who would vote those two out no matter who would complete their terms in office.

It's something our country and the world sorely needs. We need to show once again that fundamental ethics and the rule of law supercedes any fear terrorists can instill in us.
