I'm not so sure. I think the seriousness of the problem is underestimated generally.

Drug traffickers basically terrorize a population. They kill people, that's how they do business. Almost all the gang violence and shootings are due to drug trafficking. And they are international: most pot grown in Canada isn't even sold here, it's exported to the US where they get a higher price. The same for Coca in Paraguay and Opium in Afghanistan. They ruin lives, terrorize people, kill people, fight armed conflicts, corrupt political leaders & police. They are IMO indistinguishable from terrorist organizations.

I just don't see the arrests and convictions that I think I should for this problem. Mostly I see police driving around in their company cars, issuing parking tickets, sipping their coffee. In fact I bet they spend more money on coffee than just about anything else justice related.
