Or said a different and shorter way, the Moon will never be exclusively about a platform for observational telescopes.
Which perfectly fine sentiment. I would hate it if the Moon was merely an exclusive platform for telescopes.
I believe that such documents explaining why the Moon is a not good place for the exclusive use telescopes should preserved and made into plaques so that in the future, it can pointed to whenever people start bitching about lunar commerce or tourism somehow interfering with lunar telescopes.
No civilization [or even a dinky town] has ever been built solely because of the desire to make and/or have telescopes.
Nor should the Moon merely be a proving ground for later trips to Mars.
Nor should it be the next place NASA can put a base and be another excuse to expand and prolong NASA's job program.
BUT if the sum total placed in space [anywhere] at any time, soon or distant future is going to add up to any significant amount say, somewhere in the order of 1 million tons, whether all this stuff has to do with colonizing Mars, Mercury, NEO, the stars, or wherever, and include all the other stuff like telescopes, communication satellites, SPS, and whatever else, then you should explore the Moon.
But if the plan is to basically stay forever on Earth until something or someone kills everyone or everyone simply dies from boredom- then DON"T explore the Moon.
The Moon is Earth's starport. God made Earth have too much Gravity, but He was kind enough to give us the Moon.
And He said if you have any balls you will go there.

- Depends on what you want to look at (n/t)

- Sorry, but words "Darwin Prize" keep on coming to mind (n/t)
- How about a Mars base with this simple idea as part of a small habitable area in one of the many deep canyons?
