Labor exploitation
When faced with a workforce organized by unions, a workforce that declined to work for a pittance, a workforce with certain expectations of employers, company executives (supported, at least tacitly, by their stockholders) decided to hire a workforce that they could exploit and even blackmail. Supply and demand strikes again.
Now that government is getting into the act, this example of capitalist exploitation of vulnerable labor faces atrophy. Government regulation of the free market isn't always bad.
