Ah, but if they tell you that, they must be on the level!

You read everything. And then you think about it.

We had our team meeting yesterday at work. Again, it came up: How do we notify people of things? The people who visit the library mostly don't read the posted notices. And these are people who read! Those that do don't always think the notices apply to them. We spend half an hour every meeting discussing the best way to efficiently, cordially, and uniformly* explain to our customers something that they ought to be able to figure out for themselves.

For everyone like you, who reads the whooole thing and thinks about its content, there are 20 who don't read the whole thing, and 10 more who read it but it doesn't register. (Yes, I pulled those numbers out of the air, but my experience tells me the essence is true.)

They will make plenty on their scam until someone who read, thought and understood reports them.

*("Uniformly" is important, because for those who think they are The Queen -- or King -- we must be consistent. If they don't like the answer they get from one of us, they will shop around until they get an answer they like, so all our answers must be the same. "Drinks in covered containers only." "Food in designated areas only." "You may not log on to the internet using another person's account." "To check items out with another person's card, we must have written permission from the cardholder presented to us by that person, reflected by a note in the account record, and you must present photo ID." "Youth computers are reserved for people under 18, unless you are accompanying children.")
