In the case of children and guns, it's a no-brainer

Don't let them have guns. We apply an age limit to driving a car and drinking alcohol and smoking tobacco, and in two states now, marijuana. Is it really that much of a stretch to envision a law applying an age limit to gun use and ownership?

All that makes it unimaginable is the unwillingness of spineless politicians to buck the gun manufacturer's well-funded lobby the NRA and the armor it's created over three decades of four million heavily-armed and dangerously paranoid zealots. But yet, last I checked, we're still a democracy, and four million nutjobs don't get to overrule the huge percentage of Americans who favor stricter gun control. Not forever. Not if we're ever to call ourselves a democracy again with a straight face.

But if it's hopeless, then America's hopeless. Are you counseling that we give up, Jody?
