I saw a HD-DVD recorder advertised for $5000 recently. That's more than double what a HDTV would cost. I don't know why someone doesn't make a hard drive- or flash-based HDTV recorder. It'd be alot cheaper. I think a typical 160 GB hard drive will store several hours of HD video. That'd be enough to replace a VCR easily.
