We communicate with many 3rd party platforms, as well. Some of the applications care what time it is. Some of the applications require consistency between timestamps on communications and what they themselves show as the time. When an inconsistency occurs some of the applications need code to account for it.
Since I'm in the insurance industry, an example: when a customer calls in to report a loss, a lot of logic is based on what date/time they called. Sometimes it is a program rather than a human that makes real decisions depending on time. It has to use something for that time/date comparison. Question is: does that time come from a source that "really knows what time it is"?

We applications communicating with each other from literally hundreds of platforms.
