Perhaps the physical universe is very simple in its fundamental operation.
Compare it for example, to the computer that you are using right now, it is capable of doing a lot of complex things, but if you take away all the programs, software, everything that tells the computer what to do, you end up with a device that has millions of on off "switches" inside.
If you consider only one of the parts inside the computer it is very simple in its fundamental function, it turns out to be an electronic switch that is either on or off. Simple to understand.
The universe also seems very complex in its entirety, but in its fundamental function it may be very simple.
The binary function of a computer could be comparable to, say a, "trinary" function of the universe.
Why trinary you might ask.
We know that "space" exists, we know that "mass" exists, and we know that "energy" exists. Perhaps space, mass and energy are "conditions" of the universe, the equivalent to "on" and "off" conditions in a computer.
