I don't know how they do it in your neck of the woods, but around here, most politicians are rarely identified by (R) or (D) in press reports. It's usually Congressman and Senators who get the parenthetical party and state (or district, in the event of State legislators) tag, regardless of whether they're dedicating a public building or getting indicted. Even state governors do not get the (x,y) after the name. I always wondered why this was so and if it had something to do with their legislative status.
