I never really understood the appeal of sports, but I always see people in general obsessed with sports. Most newspapers have a whole section devoted to sports. For alot of young people sports figures are like heros. They've got their favorite teams they watch on tv all the time, keeping track of who won which game, how the BIG WIN went down. Look at the hoopla over the world cup. People are honking their horns, waving flags out their windows. Sports figures are naturals to set an example for their fans. Work hard, don't do drugs, good sportsmanship. Kids always try to imitate their favorite sports heros: practice their moves until they are as good as the professional athlete. Can you bounce a ball on your knee? Can you land a 3-pointer in the basket? Can you slap-shot the puck into the net?
If kids see adults screaming profanities at people all the time, shooting their gun into the air, maybe even going out and shooting people, they are going to turn out the same way.
