If a Moon mission were to use two Aries V launchers, instead of one Aries I and one Aries V, then a much sturdier CEV could be built and flown. The CEV and LSAM could be designed with much thicker hulls to protect astronauts from deep space radiation. This would allow Humans to safely explore beyond LEO.
