All kidding aside, I have no problem with astronauts who are exploring Mars being gay. I do have a problem with their being gay as a criteria for going to Mars. Men and women, straight, gay, lesbian, bi, should go only based on their qualifications.

This discussion overstates the problems. I think the astronauts will all be keenly aware of the billions of people watching their journey, and they will know their place in history will depend on their actions. That alone will have a strong influence on their behavior.
