The stars were easy to see then
There were no windows, torchlight was all they had. When the sun went down, they saw the stars. Every night, for their entire lives. It's no surprise they started naming constellations and planets, mapping them and tracking their positions. The bronze age allowed them to build devices that lasted. The aztecs and mayans in Central America did something similar with stone structures, but obviously they never developed metal implements.
