"Why tax the rich when you can rise up, kill or imprison them, and steal all their property?"
That might be very an exciting project for some thuggish individuals, but it isn't much fun for those who are more civilized than Chief Warhawk.
My point is rather simple, the very rich [*apparently* the majority of them] say they want to be taxed more. So since they are constantly urging this, I say we allow them to be taxed more. If the very rich [the apparent majority of them] want to be murdered and robbed, then we could consider this if and when it this occurs.
A Surtax of 10% for those making more than a million per year [moviestar, CEOs, Heads of Universities, basketball players, people who inherited huge sums of money, people who married huge sums of money, etc]. In additional bonus I think if they elect to pay a 20% surtax, they can then they choose what exactly their surtax goes to: e.g. NASA, HUD, Defense, NIH, etc.
I'm sure as a result would only feel better about themselves- I believe this feel good about themselves is actually more important then paying down debt and paying more for the miltary. And maybe they would spend more time bragging about being the lucky few who pay the surtax, then say wasting their time talking about the weather.
