The GOP folks understand what's going on in Iraq and support him, but have been disappointed in the GOP congress' performance. They left us hanging high and dry in regards to illegal immigration, IRS reform, spending control, religion/state separation and other important issues. They were cocky and ineffective - unresponsive to the wills of their constituents. Being GOP is not enough - you have to act like a GOP member and not just a wanna-be Democrat exploiter out for the free lunch.
Bush has his own agenda and was rebuked at the same time for straying. The border fence gesture was too little too late. But Bush is crying no tears over any losses in Congress - he moves on, adjusts and goes his own way, regardless.
Iraq is still in our best interests. Until cars are predominantly solar powered, the US needs to buy Iraq's oil. Venezualan imports are unreliable and must be seen as unreliable. Even now, Chavez is shopping for Chinese buyers willing to pay as much as the US does for their oil. And likewise, even now, Bush's people are hunting up the next supplier.
As a steward of the economy, Bush gets a barely passing grade. He understands oil imports and tax control but apparently is clueless as regards to illegal immigrations damages to the US economy, job market, crime rate and to all future conservative's electability without pandering to the handout crowd.

It's much simpler than that...
