The "black-and-white" thinking syndrome. Saddam was a Sunni. Saddam was bad. Therefore Sunnis are bad.
Sunnis formed the backbone of the government. It was a repressive government. Therefore Sunnis are now fair game for repression.
It's a pernicious way of thinking, and it permeates all Conservative thought. Certainly skews one's view of the world into something unworkable.
And, indeed, the Bush administration has granted tacit permission for the persecution of the minority Sunnis by the majority. After all, they lost the election, right? That's the way it goes, they figure.
Carl Jung - they believe "the center of all iniquity is 5 kms. behind enemy lines." And really believe they're all pure.
