The government has cheerfully agreed to insure structures built in places that would bankrupt private insurance companies. Without this, hazardous areas would soon have a lot fewer people in it.

Wouldn't mind seeing a study comparing the economic input of these areas (and it is a lot) against the economic cost of having to rebuild them every few years.
