It is a sad tragedy, I'll admit, and my heart goes out to him, his family and her. And Americans have a way of trivializing and minimizing responsibility for these things. The fact is a pretty good system for teaching how to handle firearms broke down when someone decided a 9 year old needed to know how to use an UZI. Stupidity beyond belief, worthy of a Darwin award.
