Brings "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" to mind.

Still the best film of its kind in recent years, although others flirted with the reality vs. toon idea (Ralph Bakshi's "Cool World," and bits of "Last Action Hero.")

Astoundingly, I had actually read the Roger Rabbit novel long before the movie came out. The gimmick was the same, roughly, although without the famous copyrighted characters, and in the book, the cartoon characters were comic strip actors, not film actors, and actually spoke in word balloons. The book was called "Who Censored Roger Rabbit," by Gary Wolf.

The "Roger Rabbit" movie was the first to combine Disney and Warner Brothers characters in one venue, and word was that the negotiations involved made nuclear arms talks look like child's play.

The technology used in the film, prior to major use of computers, was amazing.

Watching Roger in the theater, rapt in admiration for his hero, Goofy, brought an interesting perspective to cartoon antics. Next time I saw a Goofy cartoon, I wondered what it would be like in a world where the incredible physical feats were actually performed. In such a world, Goofy would indeed have been the king of all stunt men.
