I hear ya.
When I was a kid I started into a plate of broccoli once, slathered on some margarine, took a bite, happily wolfed down one branch. The next broccoli was a bit big, so I cut it in half. A second later a large, and bright green, tomato worm wriggled out of the stem. I mean, this worm was a good centimeter in diameter, 2 inches long. Basically, what was left of the broccoli was just the skin, the entire inner stem was a worm. Makes for vivid memories long into adulthood.
