I'm sure he was busy with Katrina, Iraq, Afghanistan. Looking for OBL. Firing prosecutors.

Yer doin' a heckuva job, Mikey (Chertoff)! By Bush & Co. standards, a super job! Yer sucking up money like Halliburton on steroids, spending it like Bush buying bombs, and have the same to show for it.

Now these are fugitives. In side the United States of America, not in some Pakistani cave. Not yer basic illegal alien, but fugitives. From the law. People who have been caught, and ordered out. Told to leave. Vamoose! Am-scray! By the (had over heart) Department of Homeland Security itself.

These "52 operational teams" are some of the people who are "winning" the war on terrorism. Others of Chertoff's minions are making the world safer for the US, preventing sabotage, harassing airline passengers, Ph. D.s from India, hounding Chinese students, pestering Europeans over visas. The same people. Can't find 600,000 fugitives from the law.

(Bush) U.S. Can't Account for 600,000 Fugitives."

"Even though more than $204 million was allocated for 52 fugitive operations teams since 2003, a backlog of 623,292 cases existed as of August of 2006, the report said."

"The current reporting system does not provide a means by which managers can assess teams' performance," the inspector general concluded. That makes it impossible to determine if the teams are meeting their goals, the report said."

600,000 is a large city. That's a lot of 'em. About 4, count 'em, one-two-three-and-four times as many troops which are officially in Iraq. A big army. Can't find 'em. Don't know where they are.

("Well, we asked 'em to leave. Told 'em, really. Told 'em they HAD to leave. Were very clear about it. Can we help it if they didn't? And they disappeared? Not our fault. We found 'em once. What more do you want?")

Sounds as if there is no accountability. Any way one looks at it.
