When I was a kid there were many. I'd suggest somehow finding si-fi published 65 or 70 years ago. There was a lot of it, it was simply written, and interesting. I remember one about a kid mining a thorium planet, a rocket trucking firm with a stowaway, etc. Exciting for a kid.
