I hope you're not talking about the Islamists we're fighting now.
His enemy was poorly, but well enough, equipped. He was well trained, better trained in many instances than the US troops, and motivated, fighting for his land, his country, his customs. He was tough as nails, tougher even, able to thrive in conditions which a Westerner couldn't begin to tolerate. He could live off the land, in the villages, and on next to nothing. And not only smart, very smart, but efficient.
Our enemies are idiots. They can't shoot straight, have no dicipline or coordination. Everytime they engage our forces in a fight, they suffer massive casualties and inflict slim to none on our troops.
It's been said that last year the Taliban were responsible for 6,000 deaths in Afghanistan. What many of the "news" sources fail to mention was that 5,800 of those were Taliban killed during their operations. So they managed to kill around 200 (mostly unarmed civilians) while losing 5,800. We can only hope they keep on with their "Spring offensives".
The situation in Iraq isn't much better. The "insurgents" mostly target market places and other soft targets for a reason, because they get their asses handed to them when they engage Western troops in a fight. They run around like ants whose hill has been kicked over. They're not warriors, they're insects in need of extermination.
