The story says it’s 3x more expensive than conventional power and then says but it’s the first of its kind. Not true at all. Many years ago I toured Solar 1, a very similar solar power plant in the Mojave Desert north east of Los Angeles. It has since been rebuilt as Solar 2, and looks like this
The thermal energy was stored in a large tank of oil so it could continue generating power at night. However I recall hearing that the oil tank exploded once or twice. I’m not sure it is still operating as a power plant. There is something about it being converted into a telescope of some kind. You can find it with Google Earth. It's just east of Barsto.
