folding on Mars

Views from the traverse up the Columbia Hills revealed broad, open folding. Low amplitude, long wavelength, with dips rarely exceeding 10-15 degrees. Warping, if you will, rather than folding.

The structure of the rocks within the plate will shed light on the matter. I'll have to find time to review vent morphology. And do a search for citations on the observed warping. Finding a usable contour map of the area be great too, as I'd like to get some slope measurements to confine this model.

Most likely a non-tectonic origin to this type of folding. Reminds me of drape folding over dissolution structures in the Colorado Plateau, only much more subtle.

Oh, just how would my Brunton work on Mars? Fine for dips, but does Mars have enough magnetic field to get a bearing? Should I bring a sun compass?
