The fatal flaws lay in the premises.

The problem with coming up with a constructive way to put Humpty Dumpty back together again is that it can't be done, AND the alleged reasons for breaking him were not reasons the public was given.

"Getting Osama bin Laden.". Afghanistan was ready to fork him over, but Cheney/Bush got more and more aggressive, demonized the country, touted women's rights, all because they wanted to go to war more than they wanted OBL. That's obvious. We still don't have OBL, and the reason is that if he were caught the American public would want to come home from there.

Nobody in the Bush Administration cares about women's rights except when demonizing a Muslim country. You don't hear about the problems women have in Saudi Arabia, for instance.

That reason was and is bullshit. The agenda is hidden. That war is lost. The Afghani tribes kick the hell out of anyone who invades, including the US. So what can be said that's constructive?

And much the same can be said about Iraq. Long before the war, I saw Billy Kristol on one of the Sunday news programs. Asked why the US would go to war against Iraq, he replied with a broad smile, "I think it's safe to say there isn't much concern for the Iraqi citizens." An understatement.

It wasn't WMD, it wasn't nukes, we know that. It wasn't democracy or stability. It was stable, except for the American sanctions. Which did not hurt Saddam, but did harm the average Iraqi greviously. So much for any concern for those folks.

It wasn't fighting terrorism. The US has created generations of terrorists and given them the popular support they need to operate. And in addition, supplied them with an entire country from which to operate. And was told that would happen by most of the rest of the world.

So, without knowing the agenda, how does one have a "constructive" suggestion.

Actually, the agenda in both cases is access to oil for Cheney's buddies. And if one doesn't think that is a good enough reason for the death and misery, cost to US credibility, etc., it's hard to have a constructive suggestion.

The question is a bit like asking what should be done to make the Emperor's new clothes fit a little better, make them a bit more stylish. He ain't got any clothes.
