I'm not worried about folks stealing my stuff. All that is, is just that - stuff. Shadows that will return to dust. I'm concerned about the minds of the masses, their thoughts, emotions and direction. Stuff that really matters to their longterm progressive evolution. When one believes in reincarnation, as I do, then these things THOUGHTS are far more important than possessions and things and lead one either on a path to brighter paradises or darker personal purgatories.
I'm sorry to hear about your dad and stepdad. That sort of thing is very painful and tough to go through.
Everyone is trying to get by: rich, poor, aristocrat, peasant. However, you've bought into the class sytem and the groups to which each has been assigned by someone equally shortsighted.
Shrek is about hate. It is about prejudice, it is about the rich and the poor but like the Bolsheviks, it is really about pacifying a whole group by setting them against another group. In Shrek all the human looking characters are monsters and all the fairy tale creatures are the oppressed masses. Even Fiona, the only nice human, has to abandon her humanity to make Shrek happy. Again, reinforcement of bogus classes of people.
You can never be happy because someone has assigned YOU to a group - and you have ACCEPTED that classification.
Who is to say you are not an aristocrat? One of the rich? A bourgeoise? A nobleman? A peasant? Why can't you be ALL these simultaneously? Why let someone else pigeonhole you to some fictional group? Why force classification onto others and yourself?
You are trained to be unhappy, because you have been told you are engaged in a great struggle and that others have it easier than you and are your oppressors. Class warfare is just as real exploitation as any done by a landowner, corporation or king - it is just a mirror image of that same exploitation.
The Russian farmers were often happy enough, with plenty of complaints of course, but still generally happy. Then the non-farmer Bolsheviks agitators told them they were miserable. Before they knew it they had no farm at all - it all belonged to the Bolsheviks. They went from fairly happy to miserable real quick because they bought into the same stuff you buy into. That's the threat of Shrek -it sells a false bill of goods and furthers hate disguised as niceness.
The rich are just as miserable as the poor, often more so. They have just as many insecurities as the poor, perhaps more so. Why? Because they can no longer comfort themselves with the "When I get rich my life will be so much better!" No, they ARE rich and their life is just as much a nightmare, with just as many worries, insecurities and the same ol' granddaddy fear of death that the poor have. The material of their clothes change, the nameplate on their car changes, but the circumstances, emotions and fears are all the same!
Shrek is bad because it is warmed over Bolshevism and really leads to further unhappiness. Because it doesn't offer any real solution to unhappiness. It's a pacifier. And thanks to you folks here I have elaborated and clarified some of my points and made it a blog topic.
It's amazing an animated flick can generate such controversy - but it can.
