The anti-war mandate is there, all right, and growing, but the Republicans have deftly managed to spin failure to support this war at this time and place under these circumstances with betrayal of the troops, cowardice, treachery and appeasement. But this strategy is starting to backfire, now that Republican legislators are having to face that mandate at the polls. I can already see those Republican principles evaporating as the prospect of facing another election with a deteriorating military situation rapidly approaches. Watching the spin vector make a quantum jump in the other direction is going to be amusing, and this time, the voters will remember. Poor George, his party is going to make him take the fall for this. As Sam Spade told the Fat Man, "Someone's got to take the fall, and Elmer's tailor-made for it".
