Listening to liberals talk about economics is like trying to watch cargo cult members talk about aeronautical engineering. Why, if we weren't spending the money on (insert a government expenditure you don't like here), all that money would magically float over to (insert a government expenditure you do like here.) In real life, firing Lockheed engineers in order to hire medical personnel is a bit more complicated, and wait until you get into infrastructure and capital.
Read the article, and pay attention to where the money is coming from.
Incidentally, as yet another reality check for you (getting to be a full-time job here), if we spent the same amount per capita as Canada does for universal health care (a best case scenario), the annual expense for a similar U.S. program would be about $1.23 trillion, or almost three times the cost to date of the entire Iraq war.
Every year. Forever.
That's assuming medical costs don't go up, of course. Don't forget to convert for U.S. dollars when you check the math.
As another point of perspective, and using the same liberal assumptions of malleable economics, that universal health care budget is approximately 70 NASA budgets per year.
