You meant drill, not dig, didn't you?
If we have to drill, probably hundreds or thousands of meters
deep into the martian crust, to find martian bacteria, then
than obviously infers the need for manned missions to Mars.
It will require a group of astronaut/cosmonaut 'roughnecks' to do
the job.
But robots on Mars are always necessary too.
