When we thought most stars where binaries or multiple, I once read the galaxy was kind of like a gigantic ballroom with waltzing dancers (stars) and some of them (like our sun) would sometimes find themselves without partners.....Then a blow to that image came when it was realized there are many many more red dwarf stars and they are mostly without partners.
