You are leaving yourself wide open to a barrage of bullshit from some quarters claiming that 90% of conservative Americans are snake handling mysogynists who beliieve women should be barefoot and pregnant at all times.
I don't really care about this little cultural thingy. No harm done, but it does seem a bit phony and gratuitous in a culture that wouldn't put up with that for a second. Kind of like some of the native American things we do.
