On soapbox:
He's right on target. I find what he and Oprah were discussing about the "I've got mine, you get yours" mentality in this country to be also on target. One thing I've said repeatedly about Republican attitudes is that they have the "I've got mine, screw you!" mentality. 100% of Republicans aren't like that any more than 100% of Democrats want to totally socialize our systems. However, in my opinion, the way that most Republicans vote on social issues does reflect the "screw you" attitude. They cared more about the life of a woman in a vegetative state in Florida than they do about the lives of the average person living a productive life. I am not minimizing the value of an individual life but I am questioning the values of lawmakers who try to control how a person dies but care nothing for how people have to live.

Our lawmakers have excellent health care. Many of their constituents don't. Or the health care we have refuses to give us life-saving tests, treatments. Perhaps it's time we held our lawmakers accountable for that.
