I rather suspect that the right will investigate the heck out of any group like this. Anything the tiniest bit fishy will be taken as an ultimate intictment. If nothing the tiniest bit fishy can be found then something will be made up.
You really don't see the suffragette movement as something necessary and important (I'm telling your wife!)? Groups that advocated humane treatment for Chinese laborers? Abolitionists? Anti-lynching groups? JDL? What's the name of that group that helps victims of domestic abuse? Man, I really don't care where these groups get their money.
There are an awful lot of horror stories going around. Our government sometimes gets a whiff of something about someone and holds them for years. Sometimes they continue to be held after the original whiff was found to be an olfactory illusion. Sometimes the authorities would prefer to keep fishing in hopes that something is found that will make the whole episode less embarrassing. People caught in that ringer need some help, financial and legal. Sadly there are more cases like that, right now, than membership dues can help.
I really don't know these CAIR people. I wouldn't blame them if they took cash from whatever pockets were available to them, though.
