"3. Opponents of Kyoto fear the loss of our sovereignty and destruction of our economy. First of all, EVERY treaty we have ever entered into in some way limits our "sovereignty." That's the way international agreements work. The non-proliferation treaty also limits Iran's and North Korea's sovereignty. WE CAN ALWAYS PULL OUT OF A TREATY IF IT IS NOT IN OUR NATIONAL INTEREST. Why? Because we are a sovereign nation."
And as a sovereign nation we didn't enter Kyoto, the Senate overwhelmingly voted it down. The US has a lot more respect for treaties than other countries- e.g. almost all countries that signed Kyoto are presently violating it. And since both Iran and North Korea are violating their agreement, it's not limiting their sovereignty very much- they have gained by signing the Treaty, because they are permitted access to nuclear technology.
What so hard to understand about the concept that law mostly affect law abiding people. The main reason the US does well economically is the lack of law which restrict it's citizens and the laws that do exist are respected.
