I called him on his idea that somehow the people we're fighting are as blood thirsty as they are because we are over there. That if only we'd pull out and understand them better, they'd stop blowing up markets with suicide bombers or stop cutting off heads.

He doesn't seem to get that we are up against total barbarians. Savages that hate their fellow Muslims who don't walk in lockstep with them, and who down right despise anyone who isn't a Muslim. To them we are the proverbial Jews...and it's 1933. Instead of facing up to this idea, he'd rather bury his head. We debate the issue; he lashes out at us for rocking his kite flying world view. Stop trying to understand and empathize with the monsters, and start supporting those who are defending everyone from them.
