You could find nuts (not here, as I recall) who were convinced that Clinton was going to generate some kind of national emergency so he could keep his office after the election.

You had Republicans who thought Clinton had destroyed the presidency forever, and Democrats who thought that he was a god, and everything in between.

A while before that, and long before this board, I listened to eight years of how Reagan was going to put all his enemies in prison camps, or inevitably kill us all in a nuclear war. Nuclear winter was the great environmental flap back then.

Go back far enough, to Lyndon Johnson, and you actually had leftists who thought he was the Dark Lord.

The kicker is that nothing really changes. The rhetoric is almost word for word over decades. Only the names change.
