"provocative labels"

"authoritarian conservative" is indeed a provocative label, selected and designed for precisely the effect it would have on the less-thoughtful people in the author's audience.

Frankly, the sooner you drop it for more accurate labeling, the better.

The more thoughtful are well-aware of which philosophy and set of ideas has created more misery and death in the past century than any before it in history. Hint: this philosophy has damn little to do with modern American conservatism and its beliefs.

Professors and authors can fart around with the terminology until the cows come home. No doubt they'll find a willing audience, just as Michael Moore does. Meanwhile, they can keep getting all puffed-up and indignant when someone uses the term "National Socialist."

Now, as to the term "cooperation"--a term that's also being thrown about quite loosely--that's an easy one. It isn't "cooperation" any more when one of the parties involved has to hold a gun on the other one.
