Usually entrepreneurs go to either an angle invstor(s) and get seed money of they go to venture capatalists (VCs, a.k.a. bloodsucking vampires) to get money. These early, wealthy, investors exact a hefty percentage of ownsership for their risk money. If the company's product works and the company then gets revenue, hopefully revenue exceeding expenditures for a couple quarters running, then they'll go public and issue stock. You need to be a VIP investor to get the initial shares in the 1st day.
