My personal experience with this--I married a man I thought quite intelligent. One night he sits me down and asks me to quit using large vocabulary words because it intimidated his friends. It never occurred to him to find more intelligent friends. (I got rid of the husband.)

My answer to this is, if someone is intimidated by intelligence, it's their problem and proves their lack of same.
I'm not dumbing down because the average Joe finds intelligence intimidating. Their judgments hurt them, not me--unless I let them.
