The political bloggers would bat this back and forth and all we'd have for information is dueling conspiracy theories. It's because people like network TV and AP have kept snooping around the edges of this that we now know the Army made up a phony story about this, and people are now being punished for that. Eventually the truth will out.
I suspect that there is no story here. I think (but cannot prove yet) Mr Tillman died as a result of a battlefield accident, and that the military tried to fudge the story for two reasons, 1) to avoid the bad publicity of a celebrity dying by fratricide, and 2) out of a sincere desire to spare his family that knowledge. We'll know soon enough, one way or the other.
Why this brave soldier's tragic and pointless death should become fuel for a political brawl amongst comfortable fat-assed civilians like us sitting at our keyboards and screaming silently at each other, is unconscionable. Get a grip, people.
