Oscar, a 2 year old kitty, it would seem can smell death. [I have heard of dogs being able to sense impending seizures, and smell cancer in people], but this kitty seems to smell death.
According to People magazine, Oscar the ordinarily anti-social cat, who resides at the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Providence, Rhode Island, will leap on a patients bed, nuzzle, and purr contentedly. Each time, the patient will die within hours. He hasn't missed one, and has shown the same consideration for 25 other patients.
Oscar has not replaced nursing assessments but the staff members so respect his predictive abilities that they call to prepare family members when he shows signs of affection toward a patient .
Dr. David Dosa has written an article about Oscar in the New England Journal of Medicine.
