Space/Science » in reply to Houston, KSC and the path of the hurricane

America's space assets are vulnerable to much more than hurricanes.

Remember when the shuttle fuel-tanks factory near New Orleans
was threatened by Hurricane Katrina?
Remember how Cape Canaveral was secured tight as a drum
after the September, 11, 2001 terrorist attack?
Remember that horrendous explosion near Las Vegas
at the space shuttle SRB propellant production plant?
Then there are those isolated acts of sabotage of space
hardware by disgrunted employees, such as those snipped wires
on an ISS bound computer.
Train derailments.
Hailstorms damaging the space shuttle.
Lightning.
I haven't mentioned the possibility of a serious earthquake
doing damage to Vandenberg Spaceport in California.

And the worst threats to America's space assets
may come from deep within the Earth, or from deep space.
i.e., A super-volcanic landslide in the Canary Islands
could generate a super-tsunami that could wipe out
Cape Canaveral [and Miami, too]...
and a mountain-sized asteroid could do the same.

If you put your faith in humanity's future on
a fragile space exploration infrastructure you may
end up horribly disappointed in some future year.
You may end up in despair.
