Wanting money prioritized differently is hardly hating space. I do think you're wrong though because of those very same things I'm constantly harping on Tom about, the intangibles in life, those things you simply can't quantify or portray on a graph.
I so agree our country needs to spend so much more on things such as health care, education, infrastructure but there's this huge pot of money to do that if we only stop trying to be policemen to the world. If that is our strategy, there's no need to hamper NASA and money spent on exploration. Mankind needs that type of discovery and I truly believe the benefits far outweigh the expense.
I so understand the motivation of your position though and could never hold our disagreement against you. Your position is one of compassion and probably also a sense of resignation that our countrymen are going to remain scared and greedy and the system will stay as it is.
There are just too many really wasteful things our country does that have no element of advancement of our species that our space program does that you should be putting your efforts into eliminating instead. Stay on task against the military industrial complex. Work tirelessly on energy conservation. Work for universal health care. It's my contention that the US could do it all if just tackled those three things.
