Iron worlds
It might be possible for terrestrial planets near highly evolved stars to have lost their rocky mantles by evaporation due to nova explosions or even from erosion with the extended outer layers of supergiant stars. The final result would be the surviving exposed nickel-iron cores of these worlds orbiting white dwarfs. Very strange. But a good exotic setting for a science-fiction story.
