Hi Hank

Exposed cores would evaporate as easily as their mantles as iron and silicates have similar melting points. Earth's demise won't be from sublimating away into space, but from gas-drag as the Sun puffs up. The Sun's outer atmosphere will be incredibly diffuse during the AGB phase and rather explosive mass loss will occur.
