The climate is *always* changing.

What I find weird about many environmental advocates is the odd idea that the status quo in a given environment is somehow the ideal, and needs to be preserved at all costs.

I see enormous amounts of money spent to get rid of "alien" species in a particular ecosystem. Sometimes there is a serious danger to many other species, but often it's just a plant that somehow got there that has been deemed "not native." In reality "native" often means an alien species that manage to move in to an area before people did, and killed off its competition before humans caught them at it.

It goes beyond that. Where the glaciers are right now is where they're supposed to be forever. A canyon filled with water by a dam is a crime against nature, but a canyon filled with water by an ancient rockfall is a thing of beauty.

In reality, if you looked at a particular piece of ground over about a thousand years, you would be amazed at the changes that take place.
